Tick Tock, Tick Tock

Ever since Dann and I started dating, I've had countdowns.  At first, I counted down the days until he would come back from Lawrence for the weekend and we could hang out again.  Next, it was a countdown until he moved to Kansas City.  Then, I counted down the days until our first cruise together.  And ever since September 26, 2009, I've counted down the days until we would be married.  Of course, during that nearly one and a half years, I thought we might NEVER get married (doesn't everyone have those fights?!)  But now, I am more certain than ever that I am marrying the right man.  I can't wait.

Although I am a huge fan of Blackberry, they do not have a free app for countdowns (score one for you, Android and IPhone).  I am far too type-A not to know exactly how long it is until all the "big" events are, so I've created a memo of countdowns.  Unfortunately, this only reinforces my impatience, because I manually subtract one day as each goes by.  18 days until Match Day, 89 until our wedding, 91 until our honeymoon.  Obsess much?!  This is teaching me that I really need to start living in the moment, enjoying each day.  There are 18 perfectly exciting days until Match Day; why spend them wondering where I will be for the next four years when it is already out of my hands?  (I laugh as I type this, because I know it is much easier said than done).

Beyond Match Day, our wedding is getting so close.  For anyone who has been engaged, you know the time flies.  However, the time flies a little slower when you are engaged for a 20 months before you are married!  Of course, there are pros and cons.  I've had tons of time to plan every little detail.  When we were first engaged, I told everyone I did not care about the details and I just wanted to be married.  As the big day inches closer, I find myself caring much more.  I'm picking out fonts for programs, selecting a cake topper and buying gifts for the wedding party.  It is a blast to put personal touches into everything and really make the day "ours".  When our caterer showed us the menu he had created for our big day, it really sank in (and my mouth watered for hours)!  The big con to being engaged so long - I feel like we're already married!  When people call Dann my husband, I don't even bother to correct them.  Another hint to brides getting engaged well before your wedding:  do not buy your wedding dress a size too small over a year and a half before your wedding!  I did not have the willpower I thought I would for 20 months!

Three months (or 89 days) from today, on 5/27/11, we will finally be married.  And yes, 89 possibly wonderful days will pass in between now and then.  But I won't lie and tell you I won't be counting them down!

On a completely unrelated note, I found one of Carson's baby teeth lying on the floor this morning.  He really is getting big!  No wonder he's been chewing anything he can clench his jaws around.  He also had a play date with Rylee, my parents' new golden retriever.  I was absent for the first, which apparently did not go so well (lots of growling, barking and biting).  They behaved themselves last night, both very tired after a good 45 minutes of chasing each other around the house!  I still have a big goofy smile on my face after watching so much energy and fun crashing around my parents house.  This video doesn't even begin to capture it, but here's a small taste (Carson was hiding under the chair trying to escape Rylee's nibbles):
